Porsche 919 Evo: Rules are Meant to be Broken

You may remember that Porsche Motor Sports dropped out of LMP racing and retired its legendary 919 Hybrid LMP car. Lots of ink has flowed to try and find the real reason behind Porsche’s decision, including links to “diesel-gate” financial stress that affected the main Volkswagen division that Porsche is a part of.

Although Porsche has retired the car, they are on a farewell tour that now brought them to Belgium at the Spa-Francorchamps track where they went all out to achieve the absolute fastest lap time imaginable. To do that, they had to change the car in a way that would break the usual rules of the sport and the racing division. In the end though, the Porsche team was able to get the car around the track inĀ 1:41.77 minutes.

How fast is 1:41.77 around Spa-Francorchamps? Quite simply the fastest time ever recorded on the track by any car including Formula 1.

This is a proof that breaking rules not always results in something bad…
